Project efforts serve the Hopital du Zone de Pobé and nine surrounding village health centers, including Akouho, Clinique Araromi, Clinicda Cruz, Clinique La Paix, Ifagni, Iguana, Issalé, Kétou, and Towé. In summer 2004, Project Bokonon built a new clinic in Issalé on land donated by the local community.

The actual expenditure of funds occurs in two locations: the United States and Bénin. Some relatively inexpensive, lightweight, advanced equipment and supplies are purchased in the United States. The remainder of the funds are used for purchases and projects in Bénin, which benefits both the local economy and local health care. The Board of Directors drafts a budget guiding these purchases prior to the participants' departure for Bénin each summer. Then, while in Benin, the participants make the allotted purchases of goods and services with the help of local counterparts, the Program Director, and the Program Assistant.

Purchased goods and services may include, but are not limited to surgical and emergency supplies, basic medical equipment, office supplies, and structural additions. The participants will adapt this list as needed, but in all cases the purchased goods and services should increase the self-sufficiency, rather than dependency, of the health center and surrounding community.
